Francis E. Walter Dam release schedule announced

Details have been announced for the final white-water recreation dam release at Francis E. Walter. The release will begin at 1 a.m. Saturday.

The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced the schedule for the final water release of the recreation season for the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven. The schedule was revised at 3 p.m. Monday due to public comments on the timing (previously high water releases were to begin on Friday at 1 p.m.).

The Army Corps’ 2017 Flow Management Plan allows for a final large water release as part of drawing the reservoir down. The schedule and water release amounts for the final weekend will be as follows:

Starting on Saturday at 1 a.m. the release will be 2,900 cubic feet per second and will be stepped down 25 percent every 12 hours until the reservoir is back to elevation 1,300 feet.

Saturday:

1 a.m.: 2,900 cfs

1 p.m.: 2,175 cfs

Sunday:

1 a.m.: 1,631.25 cfs

1 p.m.: Match inflow
