The future of Ashfield Road was a hot topic at Monday night’s East Penn Council meeting.

The road closest to Lizard Creek floods regularly, and upkeep of the road is difficult. To repair this section of road, Supervisors’ Chairman William G. Schwab indicated that the township “may need to abandon” the section and “create a cul-de-sac.”

No residents live on that end of the street, but land is owned by residents. Surveyors were hired to make recommendations about the future of the road.

Residents Mary Coover and Carol McFarland live on Ashfield and are concerned about changing the “very handy road” and hope the township “will find another option.”

Schwab said that the township “isn’t moving too fast” with a decision, but wants to make sure they “don’t have to do this again in 10 years.”

There will not be a special public hearing about the road, but residents will be informed by postcard when the issue is scheduled for discussion at the monthly public meeting.

Budget meetings were scheduled for Oct. 28, Nov. 7 and Nov. 11, all at 6:30 p.m. These are open to the public.

Oct. 26 is a recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon for residents only.

Oct. 30 is both trick or treat from 6-8 p.m. and trunk or treat from 6-9 p.m. in the township parking lot.
