Drug dealer given county prison term

A Carbon County man who admitted to a drug dealing charge was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday in the county court.

Rick Lee Green, 55, of Palmerton, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve one day less 12 to one day less 24 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. On a charge of possession of a controlled substance he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the first count. He previously pleaded guilty to the charges.

Green was arrested on Jan. 28, 2016, after being involved in a controlled drug buy made by agents of the state Attorney General’s office using a confidential informant. He sold crystal methamphetamine to the CI.

Green told Serfass, “I’d like to get full employment.”

He added he was sorry for his actions.

Green applied for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest — but the adult probation office determined he was not a suitable candidate for the program. Serfass agreed, rejecting the request.

Serfass also ordered Green to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample, render a total of 150 hours of community service when paroled, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Jan. 2.
