Diocese announces clergy assignments

The Diocese of Allentown has announced a number changes in clergy assignments that will take place June 18.

Local assignments are:

Two local parishes will have new pastors as a result of the announcement. They include St. Richard Parish, Barnesville, and SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Lehighton.

The new pastor in Barnesville will be the Rev. Msgr. Edward J. O’Connor, who is currently serving as pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish, Pottsville.

He will succeed the Rev. Francis J. Baransky, who will enter retirement.

The new pastor in Lehighton will be the Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis, who will come to Carbon County from his pastorate at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Minersville.

The Rev. William N. Seifert has been serving as administrator of SS. Peter and Paul’s. He has been reassigned to the St. John Vianney Diocesan Confessional Ministry, chaplain of the Diocesan Homeschool Community and chaplain of the Deaf Apostolate, with residence at Holy Family Villa, Bethlehem.

In two other changes having local ties, the Rev. David J. Kozak has been reassigned from administrator of Incarnation of Our Lord and Holy Ghost parishes, both in Bethlehem, to pastor of those parishes. Rev. Kozak is a Coaldale native. The Rev. Brian M. Miller, pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Frackville, and the current chaplain at Marian High School, Hometown, has been given added duties as pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland.
