March 17, 1978 — Cindy Miller collects a game-high 21 points and pulls down 13 rebounds as Tamaqua knocks off previously unbeaten Brentwood, 70-49, in the PIAA Class 2A state championship game. Miller tallies 10 of her points in the first quarter as the Blue Raiders gain a narrow 12-10 lead. The winners, coached by Karen Sheets, use a 14-0 run in the third quarter to break the game open. Miller nets eight points in the frame, while Jane Boyer, Lynne Titus, and Wendy Truskey each add six. Titus finishes with 16 points and 11 boards for the state champs, while Truskey ends with 14 points.
