Child found wandering

A Tamaqua mother has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after her 6-year-old daughter was reported missing on Dec. 26.

Patricia Brode, 43, of Hunter Street, called the Schuylkill County Communications Center at 9:18 a.m. to report her child as missing.

Officers went to the home and began canvassing the neighborhood. As the search continued, the Comm Center received a call from a woman on Penn Street, who said a young girl had come knocking at her door.

It was the missing girl, who told officers she left home because her mother hit her and tried to cut her.

The child was taken into protective custody. Children and Youth Services were contacted and the girl was placed in foster care.

The police report says the 6-year-old has been reported as “missing” numerous times in the past.
