Carbon prison recommends HVAC contract

The Carbon County Prison Board on Thursday recommended the renewal of a three-year service contract for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning units at the correctional facility.

Warden Timothy Fritz said the contract is with Trane U.S. Inc. and includes scheduled quarterly service on each unit.

If the three years are paid up front, the contract costs $19,138.08, a savings of $1,177 over annual payments.

County commissioners will consider the recommendation at a future meeting.

The current HVAC service contract, which cost $16,930 for three years, runs out at the end of the year.

The prison board also recommended approval of a contract for medical services at the correctional facility.

Fritz said Penn Medical Group submitted the only proposal, calling for a $53,000 annual cost.

The county’s current contract, with what was Blue Mountain Health System at the time, runs out at the end of September and carried a cost of $50,200.08 annually.

The recommendation will move on to the county commissioners for consideration.
