Carbon County court

A New Jersey woman was sentenced to a state prison term on Friday in Carbon County court on forgery and related charges.

She was one of three defendants who previously pleaded guilty to be sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Jessica Carol Walter, 34, of Morris Township, was sentenced to serve a total of 27 to 54 months in a state correctional institution on the forgery, identity theft and two counts of possession of access devices, knowing they were counterfeit.

Walter was arrested by Mahoning Township police for an incident on March 2, 2017, when she was at the Verizon store along Blakeslee Boulevard and attempted to purchase several iPhones with fraudulent credit cards. When police arrived and took her into custody, a search of her vehicle was conducted and a large number of fraudulent credit cards were found.

Walter is currently serving a two- to four-year state term imposed in Bucks County on similar charges.

Matika also ordered her to supply a DNA sample, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 100 hours of community service when paroled.

She was given credit for 330 days spent in prison to date on the charges. The term runs concurrent to the Bucks County sentence.
