Carbon County court

Two defendants in pending drug-related cases were sentenced to state prison terms on Friday in Carbon County court by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

John Duncan Holzer

, 46, of Walnutport, was sentenced to serve one to three years in a state correctional institution on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Holzer was arrested by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop on Jan. 17, 2017. Holzer previously served a state prison term imposed in Carbon County on a fleeing and eluding charge.

Matika also ordered Holzer to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and render 75 hours of community service when paroled.

He was given credit for 510 days already served.

Kevin G. O’Neill

, 51, of Bethlehem, was sentenced to serve 15 to 30 months in a state correctional institution on a possession with intent count.

He was arrested on Oct. 8, 2018, by Lehighton police following a traffic stop along Route 443. He also pleaded to a charge of driving under the influence in the same incident.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in state prison, pay a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. The jail terms run concurrently.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.

He was given credit for 354 days already served on the charge.

O’Neill is currently an inmate in the county prison with a detainer on him for a probation violation filed by authorities in Northampton County.
