A Carbon County man admitted resisting arrest while three other defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in the county court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas from the following:

Palmerton incident

Daniel Scott Leslie Jr.

, 25, of Palmerton, was arrested on Sept. 1, 2017, by borough police in the area of Tunnel Street where officers responded to a report of a stolen bicycle. While investigating that incident police observed Leslie and knew he had an active warrant for his arrest. When officers attempted to place him into custody, he fled on foot. He was found later and police had to used a Taser to get him under control.

Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Leslie also pleaded to a driving under the influence of a controlled substance charge. He was arrested on June 23, 2017, by Palmerton police along Delaware Avenue. Sentencing was deferred in that matter so Leslie can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Leslie is currently an inmate in the county prison on other charges.

Other pleas

Michael R. Coulson

, 53, of Walnutport, pleaded to one count of simple assault (by mutual consent).

He was arrested by Palmerton police for an incident on April 19 at an apartment along Lehigh Avenue he shared with another person. He and his roommate, Harry Johnson, got into an argument during which Coulson admitted striking the victim on the side of the head with an ashtray. It was noted that police had numerous contacts with the two men in which assaults were alleged and alcohol was involved.

Coulson, who has been in prison since his arrest, was sentenced to serve one to 12 months in prison and ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and have no contact with Johnson. He was given credit for 132 days already served and paroled. However, he won’t be immediately released until he secures an approved living quarters by the adult probation office.

Allen David Dekorte

, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct and two motor vehicle summary offenses.

He was arrested on April 22, 2015, by Franklin Township police along Route 2015 when he was stopped for speeding. He was also charged with DUI and had a blood/alcohol content of 0.16 percent. However, that charge was dropped by the district attorney’s office when the blood test results were suppressed due to a United States Supreme Court ruling concerning blood/alcohol testing. The conduct charge was added to the complaint.

Nanovic placed him on probation for a year on the conduct charge and ordered he pay a fine of $1,000 and get a drug and alcohol evaluation. On the two summary offenses, he as fined a total of $67 and costs.

Jessica Lauren Schafer

, 40, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct as a summary offense with a charge of defraud secured creditors dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.

She was charged for an incident on May 6, 2016, when a district judge imposed a financial penalty in a civil matter. As part of that judgment she was to turn over a 65-inch flat screen television to satisfy a debt. She failed to do so. Since the incident she has paid the civil penalty in full.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $100 and costs.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on probation.
