Carbon County court

Three individuals entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Friday.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:

Drug count

Amber Dawn Randall

, 46, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, crystal methamphetamine.

She was arrested on April 24 by Lansford police following a traffic stop. Police observed her driving in the 800 block of East Patterson Street and knew there was a warrant out for her arrest. At the stop officers found drugs in the car. It was also noted she had a suspended license at the time.

Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.

Following the plea hearing Randall was taken into custody by sheriff deputies on a bench warrant for failure to appear for call of the trial list on May 29.

Assault case

Andre Mercado Jr.

, 49, of Bethlehem, pleaded to one count of simple assault.

He was arrested on Feb. 25 by Kidder Township police for an incident involving his ex-wife as the victim.

Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Two DUIs

Carlos A. Villanueva

, 36, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts each of driving under the influence and driving while under suspension, DUI related.

He was arrested on the first count on April 25, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Mahoning Township. A test revealed a 0.30 BAC. The second arrest occurred on Nov. 3, 2017, along Main Lane filed by Lehighton police. A test revealed a 0.28 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so Villanueva can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Randall and Mercado must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
