Carbon County court

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a year in jail on a drunken driving charge.

He was one of five defendants, who previously pleaded to driving under the influence and related charges, who were sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Stephen Hudock

, 52, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve one to five years in prison and pay a fine of $2,500 and his license was suspended for 18 months.

He was arrested on March 7, 2018, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. He refused a test.

He also pleaded to one count of driving while under suspension — DUI related, and was sentenced to serve 45-90 days, concurrent with the DUI charge, plus $1,000 fine. He was also ordered to render 100 hours of community service when paroled and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.

Hudock told Serfass, “I’ve made some very poor decisions relative to my pain.” He had told the court he suffered an injury that causes him pain and he treated the pain with alcohol.

Hudock is currently serving a one to two year prison term imposed in Lehigh County and is facing another DUI count in Tioga County.

Serfass ran his sentence concurrent with Lehigh.

Other cases

Tyler Charles Deihl

, 23, of Kunkletown, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail on a DUI count.

He was also sentenced on two counts of possession of a controlled substance he pleaded to. He was sentenced to serve two to 12 months in prison on each count, with all the terms running concurrently. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the other charges. On a summary offense of driving under suspension he was fined $200.

He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 on the DUI charge and a year license suspension. He must also render a total of 175 hours of community service when paroled.

He was given credit for 36 days already served. He is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison on other charges.

He was originally charged with eight counts with a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.

Deihl was arrested on Jan. 5, 2018, by Lehighton police in the 500 block of South Ninth Street following a traffic stop. Quantities of heroin and methamphetamine were found in the vehicle, along with needles, a digital scale, smoking devices and wrapping papers all used in drug use.

Gavin James Downs

, 19, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500 and license suspended for 18 months.

On a theft charge he also pleaded to he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge.

He was charged by state police at Fern Ridge with removing a wheel and tire from a vehicle of a Penn Forest Township resident on Jan. 30, 2018. He was one of three people involved in the incident. In exchange for the plea the district attorney’s office dropped charges of criminal attempt — theft, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night.

The DUI occurred on Nov. 7, 2017. Lansford police stopped him along Patterson Street. A test revealed he was under the influence of a controlled substance.

He must also render a total of 150 hours of community service.

He was given credit for 52 days already served in jail on the charges. He will begin serving the remainder of his sentence at 7 p.m. on May 24 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.

Elizabeth Brooke Arace

, 21, of Kunkletown, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and must render 25 hours of community service.

She was arrested on Sept. 3, 2017, in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton.

She will begin the jail term at noon on May 23.

Regina Ann Redner

, 34, of New Ringgold, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension, restitution for damages of $175 and render 25 hours of community service. She was given credit for three days spent in jail on a bench warrant when she failed to appear for a prior sentencing and paroled.

On a driving under suspension count she was fined $500.

She was arrested on April 30, 2017, along North Street by Jim Thorpe police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
