Carbon County Commissioners

Carbon County commissioners on Thursday took the following action at their weekly meeting:

• Approved a grant application through the County Commissioners Association and Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, requesting $2,000 in funding to assist the county Criminal Justice Advisory Board in updating its current strategic plan, including mission and vision statements.

• Authorized the advertisement of all legal notices relative to the 2019 municipal election.

• Awarded the bid for food service at the Carbon County Correctional Facility to Trinity Services Group of Oldsmar, Florida, for three years at a total bid of $1,037,238.44 (based on estimated annual count). The cost of meal per year is $1.330 in year one, $1.3566 in year two and $1.3905 in year three.

• Rejected bids for Community Development Block Grant projects for fiscal year 2016 and 2017 in Summit Hill (Ginder Field Rehabilitation) and 2015 and 2016 in Franklin Township (phase one of water and sewer improvements and a culvert reconstruction on Red Hill Road).

• Approved a purchase of service agreement with Carbon County Right From The Start in Jim Thorpe.

• Approved a grant-in-aid application with the Juvenile Court Judges’ Commission for salary reimbursement of the juvenile court office from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, with an estimated revenue of $69,300.

• Approved extensions for Community Development Block Grant projects in Franklin Township (water improvements/Red Hill Road) and Lehighton Borough (Baer Memorial Pool) through July 27, 2020, and May 27, 2020, respectively.

• Approved a change order with the Service Team for the home rehabilitation program.

• Adopted a resolution supporting reauthorizing of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act Title IV fees by Congress for at least 15 additional years.

• Submitted a Monroe County Local Share Account grant application for $750,000 to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for the Emergency Operations and Training Center Project.

• Extended the term of the KOEZ designation for Blue Ridge Real Estate Company property in Kidder Township, Weatherly School District, through Dec. 31, 2029.

• Canceled a lease with Marzen Hardware for garage rental at 314-316 School St. in Jim Thorpe.
