Assistant high school principal resigns

Northern Lehigh School District’s assistant high school principal has resigned.

The school board on Monday unanimously accepted the resignation of Tanya Simms from her position as assistant high school principal, effective Aug. 16.

Following the acceptance of her resignation, Superintendent Matthew J. Link took a moment to acknowledge Simms for her contributions to the district.

“I’d like to thank Ms. Simms for her service to the district, and wish her well in the future,” Link said.

Simms was appointed as high school assistant principal in May 2013 at a salary of $80,000, effective Aug. 1 of that year.

She began employment with the district in August of 2004 as a health and physical education teacher.

After the meeting, Link said Simms resigned to pursue endeavors outside of public education.

He said the district plans to fill her position with a secondary assistant principal who would split time between the high school and middle school.

Ideally, Link said the position would be filled in time for the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

“We have a very good number of applicants,” Link said.

He added that the district plans to begin the interviewing process the week of June 24.
