Area wrestlers enjoy college success

Several former Times News area wrestlers are having success at the next level.

• After redshirting and competing unattached last season, former TN Wrestler of the Year and state champion Caleb Clymer is currently 5-5 wrestling for Division 1 Lock Haven University. Clymer earned a 13-5 record with three major victories, and went 4-0 at the Lock Haven Classic and the GMU Patriot Open, securing two individual titles at 165 a year ago.

• Reigning Times News/Lehigh Valley Health Netwok Wrestler of the Year Ethan Mordaunt of Jim Thorpe won three matches to begin his collegiate career at 285 pounds wrestling for Division 2 Millersville University at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational in November. Mordaunt is currently 3-2.

• Panther Valley graduate Ali Capobianco is thriving in his first year wrestling for Division 3 Alvernia University. Capobianco was fifth at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational wrestling at 184 pounds last month. The junior also earned Alvernia Wrestling’s first-ever individual national ranking. Capobianco was ranked as Honorable Mention for the 197 weight class in d3wrestle.com’s second ranking of the year in November. After going 3-0 to open his season at the Lycoming Invitational, Capobianco, a two-time state qualifier, finished second with two wins by fall at the Gettysburg Invitational.

• Tamaqua graduate Tanner McHugh is 16-5 wrestling for Division 3 Baldwin Wallace University. McHugh has two major decisions, along with one pin and a technical fall. A two-time state medalist for the Blue Raiders, McHugh had a record of 14-11 in 2017-18, picking up three pins and one major decision to earn his first varsity letter.
