2019 general election: Republicans dominate Monroe County offices

While they didn’t quite complete a clean sweep Tuesday, Republicans will occupy the bulk of the offices in Monroe County.

The exception to that is in the Monroe County Commissioners office, where Republican John R. Moyer led the way with 11,392 votes, followed by Democrats Sharon Laverdure, 11,305, and John Christy, 10,791.

Laverdure, a newcomer, won the third seat, upending incumbent Republican Charles Garris, who finished last with 10,563 votes.

District Attorney

County District Attorney Republican David Christine retained his seat after he outdistanced Democratic challenger Jamie B. Levy, 13,919 to 10,375.

Sheriff

There will be a new sheriff, as Republican Ken Morris nudged Democratic challenger Kurt Cummings, getting 12,532 votes to 11,397 for Cummings.

Prothonotary

Republican George Warden held off a challenge by Democrat Beth Rodriguez, getting 13,030 votes to 10,988 for Rodriguez.

Controller

County controller Republican Marlo Merhige received 12,741 votes to stave off a challenge from Democrat Luna Mishoe, who got 11,045 votes.

Register of Wills/ Recorder of Deeds

County register of wills/recorder of deeds Republican Josephine Ferro held on to her seat after gaining 12,430 votes, defeating Democratic challenger Anita Peterson, who received 11,401 votes.
