Bowmanstown Council discussing road improvements

Bowmanstown Borough Council met earlier this month to discuss road conditions.

Council President Kara Scott said the streets committee has looked into many different options on how to deal with the problem."We understand these roads are just getting worse and worse and that something needs to be done about them," Scott said.Scott said they have spoken to a consultant on how to handle the streets problem as a whole. They will be meeting with the council's engineer, Jessica Rehrig.Scott said council is looking at the completion of the Lime Street renovation followed by the repair of Lincoln Avenue.Council member Norman Engle Jr. said Lower Towamensing must pay to put in curbing before roadwork can be started.Anxious for a better answer, residents asked if there was any short-term solution other than the planning of a long-term one.Council member Rob Moyer said council is looking into another solution that would give short-term help to the roads while they establish a reconstruction plan.Residents of Bowmanstown voiced their opinion on the tar and chipping process in the last month's meeting explaining that it was a "waste of time and money."Moyer said a company could be hired to patch some bad areas of potholes. The goal is to grind the street down and patch pave the areas to eliminate potholes. This would at least make the roads drivable until they are completely reconstructed.Council will continue to look into these possible solutions and make a decision.Trash removalThe borough has asked for new trash haulers so that trash bills will be paid to the borough and not directly to the hauler. This would make for better regulations and consistent prices for each resident.Council is still in the process of hiring a full-time borough employee. Applications are still being taken and can be accepted during office hours or mailed to the borough office.Dog showBowmanstown will hold its fifth annual dog show May 27 at the Oliver Salt Pavilion located outside of the Bowmanstown Fire Company. The event will include 10 fun categories including dog/owner look-alike, best costume and many more.Food and prizes will be included along with free participant ribbons. Dog owners will have the opportunity to get a pet portrait by a local artist and enjoy some live music by Steve Jones of Rocking the Valley.Registration for the event will begin at 11 a.m. Any questions or concerns can be directed to borough council President Kara Scott at 610-703-0029.
