Price announces candidacy for Tamaqua mayor

William F. Price Sr. has announced his candidacy formayor of Tamaqua.

A Tamaqua native, he is the son of Betty Jane Haggerty Price and the late William Price and the grandson of the late Francis "Hick" and Lena Haggerty.

After graduating from Tamaqua Area High School, Price enlisted in the U.S. Navy, assigned to a submarine squadron based in Norfolk, Virginia.While serving with a reserve unit in Allentown, heworked with the U.S. Coast Guard based in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. His many military awards include Sailor of the Quarter and Sailor of the Year.

After returning to Tamaqua, he worked at the J.E. Morgan Knitting Mill, Bethlehem; Allstate Schuylkill Co.; W.H. Johns; and TRL Transport. He has been employed by Pitt Ohio Express of Hazletonfor 20 years.

Pricevolunteered with the Citizens Fire Company and Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association.

Married to the former Denise Lewis for 29 years,they have two children, William F. Jr. of Tamaqua and Natasha Price of Slatington; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. His siblings include twin brothers, Keith Price of Orwigsburg and Kevin Price of Lake Hauto; sisters, Cathy Zucal of Danville, Lynn Zancofsky of Tamaqua and Mary Beth Price of Harrisburg.

His decision to run for mayor is based on his desire "to give back to the town which has given so much to me and my family for years. Tamaqua is home. It would be a privilege to work with our great police force, our great first responders, and the residents of Tamaqua. My goals, as mayor, would be to get more funding and training for our 'Fight against Drugs' campaign.

"I would work with senior officials to bring more businesses and jobs to our area. I also want to work with our senior citizens of Tamaqua to establish a place they can call their own. I want our streets to be safer in the future. As a father and grandfather, and true supporter of making Tamaqua a better place to live, I would like to ask for your support so that I may work for you, the great residents of Tamaqua."
