Stella: Snow emergencies and cancellations

Speed limit lowered:

Starting at 10 p.m. Monday, the following highway restrictions are in place, according to PennDOT: 45 mph speed limit on all interstates in our area,

ban on tandem truck trailers, empty trailers, towed trailers, buses, recreational vehicles and motorcycles.

The Schuylkill County Courthouse and all county offices are closed today.

All schools are closed.

Transit: Carbon County Community Transit (CCCT) and LYNX Bus services are canceled on Tuesday. Information regarding CCCT and LYNX Bus services on Wednesday will be made available after 4:30am on Wednesday.

Carbon County Environmental Education and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center needs help shoveling out their raptor shelters after the storm. If you would like to volunteer, call 570-645-8597.

All Carbon County Offices will be closed today due to the severe weather conditions.

Municipalities: Bowmanstown has a snow emergency in effect starting at 8 p.m. Monday. No parking along snow emergency routes, chains or snow tires required. Throwing snow from a sidewalk or driveway into the street is prohibited.

Jim Thorpe Fire Department is asking residents to take time to clear snow from around any fire hydrants near their homes, in case of a fire.

Lehighton has declared a snow emergency effective midnight Tuesday. Vehicles parked along any Snow Emergency Route must be moved until the emergency is lifted. Travel restrictions are in effect as per borough ordinances. Lehighton Borough Hall will be closed on Tuesday.

Lansford Borough has declared a snow emergency effective 9 p.m. Monday night. Parking will be banned on Water Street, Kline Avenue, Snyder Avenue, Front Street and the south side of Patterson Street. At this time there is no driving restriction.

A "Snow Emergency" is in effect in Palmerton.. Several streets are posted as Snow Emergency Routes, including Delaware Ave, Mauch Chunk Rd, Third St, and routes accessing the hospital, and parking is prohibited on these streets during the emergency hours. Delaware Avenue will also be designated No Parking from 6:00pm Tuesday to 6:00am Wednesday for snow removal. Finally, officials ask all residents to follow the odd-even parking rules, as parking will be strictly enforced for 48 hours after the storm ends.

Also in Palmerton, the West End Fire Co officers have announced that the fire company will be open as an emergency shelter in the event of a power outage during the impending storm. They ask that you check with them at 610-826-2244 before heading there, to ensure the station is manned.

The Summit Hill Borough will be in a State of Emergency and the Snow Emergency Plan will be in effect. There is to be no parking on the South and East sides of the streets or in any alley. There will be a vehicular travel restriction that will go into effect at 5 a.m. on Tuesday. No unauthorized vehicles may be on any borough street unless moving your car as instructed by the borough or traveling to a state highway to exit the borough, violators will be cited. The snow plowing plan is to keep the snow emergency routes open. Once the storm is over a decision will be made on snow removal or curb to curb plowing.

Tamaqua Borough garbage collection will be postponed until Wednesday. The borough office will be open Tuesday.

Walnutport borough is in a snow emergency until midnight Wednesday.

Weatherly is now in a State of Emergency along with 9 other municipalities and the county. Stay off the roads.
