Father, son injured in Lehighton fire where girl died

A 9-year-old girl has died and her father and brother are in the hospital following a devastating fire in Mahoning Township. The structure fire broke out at 1:30 a.m. Saturday on the 300 block of Beaver Run Drive. A Facebook fundraiser has been set for the family on the New Carbon County online yard sale site. Heather Fiorentino and some of the neighbors of the family are coming together to take any kind of donations for the family. Clothing, shoes, hygiene items, necessities, household items, monetary donations, are needed. "We have such a strong community and we are hoping you could help out in this time of need," Fiorentino posted. Another fundraiser has been set on Facebook to help the Gower family. The link is: https://www.facebook.com/donate/629852447211632/629883957208481/ The American Red Cross is providing financial assistance as well as emotional and spiritual care support. Coroner Robert Miller pronounced the girl dead at 2:35 a.m. The fire was extinguished by 4 a.m. The cause has not been determined. The girl was found in her bedroom after the fire, with the cause of death determined to be asphyxiation. To help, contact Fiorentino at 610-390-3566.
