Lehighton plans wall of honor
Success after school could lead to a new honor for Lehighton Area School District graduates.
The Lehighton Education and Athletic Foundation recently announced the establishment of a "Graduates of Distinction Wall of Honor."
"The program is designed to recognize notable alumni of the Lehighton Area School District who have achieved success in their occupational field or who have served their community or humanity in a positive way," said Hugh Dugan, LEAF president.
LEAF is looking for nominees to be considered for the honor of being inducted into the first class.
Graduates are eligible after they are out of high school for at least 10 years.
"Applications can be submitted by anyone who thinks a candidate is worthy of consideration for admission," Dugan said.
Applications can be picked up at the high school office or by contacting Hugh Dugan at 610-554-4864.
They are also available on the LEAF website, LEAF-foundation.org.
Completed applications may be mailed to Lehighton Education & Athletic foundation, c/o Awards Selection Committee, P.O. Box 370, Lehighton, PA 18235. They also may be dropped off at the high school office.
March 15 is the deadline for nomination.
"Applications not selected in the year submitted will be considered as an active nomination for a period of three years," Dugan said. "There will be three to five nominees selected each year and no more than two members selected posthumously per year."
A seven-person selection committee consisting of educators, businessmen and professionals will select the nominees to be inducted.
Nominees selected for membership will be notified by April 10.
Selected inductees will be honored during a reception in June at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.
"They will also have plaques placed on the Graduates of Distinction Wall of Honor located in the main entrance to the high school," Dugan said. "Future plans include having displays near the Wall of Honor depicting the selected alumni and their accomplishments."
