The driver of a sport utility vehicle escaped serious injury Wednesday evening following a one-vehicle crash along Route 895 in East Penn Township. The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. as the male was driving west about a mile east of Smith Road. For some unknown reason he lost control, crossing over the eastbound lane and onto the berm before continuing down a steep embankment into a heavily wooded area. The driver was self extracated, suffering non-life threatening injuries. The East Penn Fire Company responded with fire police shutting down the roadway and rerouting traffic. State police from Lehighton barracks are investigating the incident.
