Veterans help

A representative from the Disabled American Veterans will be available once a month at Tamaqua Borough Hall to offer free veteran's claim service for veterans as well as widows and dependent children of veterans.

Information and assistance will be provided for service connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.

The representative will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St. at 9 a.m. on March 24.

Rush Taxes

Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck is advising residents of a few changes to the dates and times her office will be open.

During March and April, the tax office will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. In May and June, hours will be 9-10 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Walck will have additional hours on April 24 and April 29, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; April 22 and April 28, from 6 to 7 p.m.

The office will be closed on March 5, April 16 and June 11.

Swim lessons

The Tamaqua YMCA is now accepting registrations for youth swim lessons, which will begin on March 31. The lessons will be held for an eight-week period.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.

Also on Sunday, a healing prayer will be offered at 10:40 a.m. in the sanctuary, the picnic planning committee will meet at 11 a.m., Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, bell choir rehearses at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service at 7:30 p.m., St. John's Lutheran; Thursday, apple dumpling pick up from noon to 5 p.m., prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., junior choir rehearsal at 7 p.m., senior choir practice at 7:30 p.m.

On March 30, an American Cancer Society Relay for Life breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, in fellowship hall.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a Bible study session, led by Andrew Gerber, will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A midweek Lenten service will be held at McKeansburg Congregational Free Church on March 26. The Rev. Bean will be the speaker. The evening will begin with a singspiration at 7:15 p.m., followed by the service at 7:30 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with set up for candy making on March 24, 25 and 27. Anyone willing to help is asked to be at the church by 9 a.m. on those dates.
