Published March 14. 2014 10:29AM

A volunteer coach at Palmerton Area High School has been charged with video recording a 17-year-old girl changing her clothes at the high school in Lower Towamensing Township.

State police at Lehighton charged Robert Eckhart, 41, of Palmerton, with photographing a child and sexual abuse of a child, both felonies, and invasion of privacy by photograph, a misdemeanor.

According to troopers, Eckhart set up his cell phone in the bathroom of the weight lifting room at the school and instructed the victim to utilize the room in order to change into her weight training clothes.

Troopers said after the girl changed her clothing she observed the cell phone and determined it was in the video mode. She then reported the incident to school officials, who then immediately notified state police.

The incident allegedly occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.

The charges were filed with the office of District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.

Eckhart was scheduled to be arraigned this morning by Kissner.
