A free, six-week parenting class will begin Thursday in Tamaqua."Caring Corners," a program designed by psychologist Dr. Kevin Lehman, will be held at the South Ward Community Center on each of the next six Thursdays.Sessions will begin at 7 p.m.Using Dr. Lehman's best selling book "Have a New Kid By Friday," leaders will provide tips on changing children's attitudes, behavior and character. Parents will gain an understanding of why children act the way they do, how they may be encouraging bad behavior and ways to make changes.Email

President Melody Weicker conducted the business session. Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "Teach Us Lord."Reports were offered by secretary Ruth Ann Feane and treasurer Penny Schlorf. Leona Machay, Pat Bednarik and Paul Rarick were added to the sick list. A birthday celebration was held honoring members with their special days in December, January and February.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on Route 54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Healthy livingA "Living a Healthy Life" series will be held in Tamaqua from 12:30 to 3 p.m. beginning March 6. The six-week series, designed to help people with chronic illness, will be held at the Tamaqua Salvation Army.The sessions are also open to caregivers, spouses, family members and the general public. Participants will learn ways to improve healthful behavior, health status and help reduce hospital stays.The sessions are free, but registration is required through Diakon Community Services for Seniors. Ashes will be distributed following today's stations.First Friday will be observed this week with confessions at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of parishioners in the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls will be made to those areas on Thursday morning.The parish Holy Name Society will meet at 8 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass will be celebrated before the meeting, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Dr. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a Bible study session, led by Andrew Gerber, will be held at 6:30 p.m.A midweek Lenten service will be held at Friedens Lutheran Church on March 12. Eugene Eckroth will be the speaker. The evening will begin with a singspiration at 7:15 p.m., followed by the service at 7:30 p.m.
