Carbon driver dies in crash Monday

Published March 04. 2014 08:08AM

A Carbon County driver was killed in a one-vehicle crash about 7:30 p.m., Monday.

State police at Lehighton said the accident occurred along Riverview Road, near Joseph Lane, in East Penn Township.

Troopers said Steven K. Brooker, 57, of Lehighton, was driving a 1999 Ford pickup truck southbound, about 700 yards north of the intersection with Joseph Lane, when the truck went onto the berm as it curved to the right.

After exiting the road, the truck traveled about 122 feet in a straight line before colliding into a large tree, where it came to rest. During the course of traveling off the road the truck hit numerous objects, damaging it before it hit the tree.

Troopers said Brooker was wearing a seat belt and that all airbags were deployed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Robert Miller. County Coroner Bruce Nalesnik said there will be an autopsy.

Assisting troopers were volunteers from the East Penn Fire Company and personnel from the Palmerton Ambulance.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers said.
