On Monday evening, fire crews from Nesquehoning, New Columbus and Hauto, as well as Nesquehoning Ambulance and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources were dispatched to the area of Route 54 near the breast of the Hauto dam and the high tension lines for a reported brush fire.
Hauto Fire Chief David Walls confirmed the fire and discovered the inside of an abandoned building that once served as a switching station for PPL was on fire.
The building is located on Lehigh Coal & Navigation property.
Nesquehoning Borough Fire Marshal John McArdle investigated and determined that the fire was intentionally set. Evidence was collected and turned over to the Nesquehoning Police for processing.
