Lehighton concert June 21

On June 21, internationally renowned singer and songwriter Iryna Lonchyna will come to Lehighton.

The event is presented by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Lansford with the Ukrainian Homestead of ODWU, Lehighton.The Rev. Vasyl Chepelskyy, St. John's pastor, invited Lonchyna to the area to provide a family event that will include surrounding communities."Because she is such a popular entertainer, gifted singer and noteworthy songwriter," he said, "Iryna has many international competition awards. In fact, she also holds a place of excellence in entertainment, being named 'Distinguished Artist of Ukraine.' You know, Iryna has been writing music since childhood and has now composed more than 70 songs."Her award was presented by the president of Ukraine, honoring her for highly executed mastery, highly artistic imaging and excellence in performing arts.Lonchyna hails from Western Ukraine and is very popular in Western Europe and Canada. The daughter of teachers, she sings of Ukraine's glory and people. During her tours in the U.S., Lonchyna has been a featured performer in Chicago, New York, Michigan and New Jersey. She has also performed at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Kerhonkson, New York, "Soyuzivka."During her concerts, the singer performs Ukrainian folk songs as well as her own pop music. Guests are fascinated by her singing and vibrant performances.The concert will be held 7 p.m. at Ukrainian Homestead of ODWU, Lehighton, located at 1230 Beaver Run Drive.
