A New Jersey man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Monroe County. State police at Fern Ridge said the crash occurred about 11:50 p.m. on Monday along Route 209, just north of Frable Road, in Chestnuthill Township.

Troopers said Michael Melascaglia, 36, of Budd Lake, was driving a 1994 Honda Accord northbound at a high rate of speed when he traveled onto the east berm. He attempted to return to his lane of travel and while doing so failed to maintain control of the car.

The Honda then began to spin counterclockwise across the entire two lanes of travel before impacting its front passenger side door area with a large steel base supporting a sign at the Sunoco service station property.

Melascaglia was pronounced dead at the scene. The car sustained severe damages.

Assisting troopers were volunteers from the West End Fire Company and ambulance corps.

Anyone with information concerning this crash is asked to call troopers at 570-646-2271.
