Truck has blowout, strikes tree in Nesquehoning

A tri-axle dump truck had a tire blowout while traveling on Route 209 in Nesquehoning, causing it to go off the road and strike a tree.

The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Monday on what is known as the Wash Shanty Curve, about a half mile south of Redner’s Market.

The driver, whose identity wasn’t available, was transported to a local hospital. Reportedly he sustained minor injuries.

The truck is owned by C. Bird Jr. Trucking of Weatherly.

It was empty at the time of the accident.

No other vehicles were involved.

The Nesquehoning and New Columbus Fire Departments responded.

Chief of Police Shawn Smith of Nesquehoning is investigating.
