Gilbert history lost in restaurant fire

Published July 28. 2014 04:00PM

When Luna Rossa was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning, a bit of Gilbert history was destroyed too.

It's not quite known when it was built, but Fern Serfass of Kresgeville remembers when it was Green Gables, owned by Arlington and Ardella Smale.

Sixty-seven years ago, Fern and Stanley Serfass were married on Aug. 2, 1947, and they and their wedding party went to Green Gables for a celebratory meal.

"Alma was a great cook and they served really delicious meals there," recalls Serfass.

She knows it was older than that at that time, but couldn't say by how much. She thought it had been previously owned by Bert (Bertha) Lesher.

Before Luna Rossa, the restaurant was known by several names including: Foxxy Lady, House of the Rising Sun, Blue Moon and Presto's.

If anyone has any memory or recollections of the buidling's history, please call 610-826-9641.
