Blaze destroys barn

A barn sized storage shed was destroyed by fire in West Penn Township Wednesday night. The blaze was reported to the Schuylkill County Communications Center just before 10 p.m.

The building, located at 474 Rabbit Run Road, near the intersection with Pine Hill Road, was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Despite heavy rain, the blaze could be seen for miles.Due to the remote location of the site, water had to be tanked into the scene.Firefighters from communities throughout Schuylkill and Carbon counties responded to the scene.Lightning was reported in the area at the time and may have hit the structure, although no official cause has been released yet.According to online records, the property is owned by Daniel and LouAnn Algard.
