A Louisiana man was flown to the hospital following an early-morning crash Sunday in Mahoning Township.

At 5:30 a.m. Mahoning Township Police investigated a single-vehicle crash on Orioles Drive.

A Mercury Milan driven by Pasquale Verrastro Jr. of Mahoning Township was traveling west at a high rate of speed when the vehicle went off the roadway, striking a tree.

A passenger in the vehicle, Alexander Landry of Mandeville, Louisiana, was entrapped with major injuries. Lehighton Fire Department responded and worked for approximately an hour to extricate Landry, who was then flown to St. Luke's University Hospital-Bethlehem.

Police believe alcohol or drugs were involved. Charges against Verrastro are pending the results of a blood test.
