BLOOMSBURG - After the frigid temperatures that gripped the region recently, a sure sign that the beginning of the end has begun for winter is the annual run of outdoors sports shows.

For local sportsmen, the first of those shows is the annual Early Bird Sports Expo at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. This year's show is Thursday-Sunday, Jan. 23-26, with hours 4-9 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday.

"We are pleased to announce that this year's seminar line up will include the crew members of the Adrenaline Team from the Forever Wild Outdoors TV show," show promoter Dave Broadt said. "Those members are Steve Schicker, Gerry Rightmyer, Bobby Hart and Teresa and Mike DePalma.

"Once again we are having the paper shoot being sponsored by Drop Tine Archery and the 3-D shoot sponsored by Cabela's and Thunder Ridge Outdoors. Pre-registration forms are available on the archery contests page of our website ( and walk-ins will be accepted at the show.

"There are multiple classes and flights to choose from and cash prizes will be issued to the winners in both contest shoots. For those 14 and younger there is a 3-D shoot Sunday between 11 a.m. and noon, and there is also a fishing derby, BB-gun shoot and more for kids."

This is the 26th consecutive year for the Early Bird Sports Expo, which attracts hunting and fishing guides from throughout the United States and Canada. In addition, local, state and national agencies and conservation groups and organizations are represented.

One of the most anticipated seminars from the Forever Wild Outdoors team is "How to Become a Successful Hunting Couple: From A-Z" by Mike and Teresa DePalma. Among the topics they will present are "Introducing a girlfriend or wife into the hunting industry, "Creating and maintaining a hunting property as a couple, "The ins and out of maintaining a relationship while doing what you love" and "Overcoming the struggles of being a women in a male dominated sport."

They will share their story on becoming a successful hunting couple from the beginning struggles to the milestones they have achieved with their bowhunting passion. Teresa will talk about her struggles in becoming a now admired bowhunter in a male dominated sport and share stories of traveling the country together on many hunting adventures while maintaining a normal life on their own property in New York State.

Also discussed will be topics from planting and maintain food plots, to monitoring trail cameras, to hanging stands, to scouting new hunting properties. By doing these things together, they live their motto of "Couples who share a passion, have passion."

Schicker, the founder of Forever Wild Outdoors TV, will present the seminar "Putting a Human Element Into Turkey Calling." By comparing the way humans communicate and the way wild turkeys communicate he gives a new approach to bagging a gobbler that is comprehensive, informative and fun.

Rightmyer, the producer and host of Forever Wild Outdoors TV, will present the seminar "Trail Cameras and Becoming a More Successful Hunter." For the past 30 years, he has pursued big game in 14 states, five Canadian Provinces, South America and two provinces in South Africa.

Over that span, Rightmyer has qualified animals in the Boone and Crockett, Pope and Young and New York State records. His accomplishments include earning gold and silver medals in Safari Club International, and he has taken big game with rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, compound bow and crossbow.

Pennsylvania native and whitetail land specialist Mathew Beitz, the owner of Evolved Whitetail Solutions, has more than 18 years experience hunting the big woods whitetails in Pennsylvania and will discuss the techniques he uses to consistently take mature whitetail bucks. Some of the topics he will discuss are sanctuary design and creation, food plot placement and what to plant and why, waterhole construction, trail cameras and overall hunting/management plan.
