CCTI plans to sell vacant building
BOB FORD/TIMES NEWS Carbon Career & Technical Institute's adult education center will be put up for auction.
The Carbon Career & Technical Institute's adult education center, located across from the school on 13th Street in Jim Thorpe, may soon have a new owner.
Randall Smith, chairman of the Carbon County Area Vocational Technical School Authority, said that the authority, which owns the school's buildings and grounds, is looking to sell the center. The building, which formerly housed CCTI's day care and GED instruction programs was vacated Dec. 31, and the day care discontinued.
The authority is now waiting for approval to proceed with the sale from the five school districts that comprise CCTI. To date, Smith said, four of the five school districts have approved the sale.
Once the authority gets the green light, it will accept sealed bids.
Smith noted that the 3-acre property, adult education center and a portable classroom on the property have been appraised at a combined $257,000, which will be the lowest accepted bid.
Some interest has been expressed in the property, Smith added.
