Former Palmerton superintendent up for new job

Published January 13. 2014 12:43PM

A former Palmerton Area School District superintendent could be tagged for that position at a school district in Susquehanna County tonight.

Carol Boyce is listed on this evening's Montrose Area School District board of directors' agenda for approval as superintendent of schools, effective Feb. 3, for a three-year contract, at a starting salary of $120,000.

Montrose Area School District is a small, rural school district located in northwestern Susquehanna County.

Contacted this morning, Boyce deferred comment on the matter until a later date.

Boyce, who was hired as superintendent of Palmerton Area School District in July 2008, served in that capacity until June 30 of last year.

In August of 2012, the board unanimously agreed to accept a letter from Boyce for nonrenewal of her appointment once her contract expired.

Also at that time, the board, in accordance with the superintendent's contract, unanimously agreed to notify Boyce that her contract would not be renewed.

Both the board, as well as Boyce, previously stated that the decision to part ways was "mutual."

In April, the board hired Scot Engler as acting superintendent, and approved his three-year contract beginning July 1, at the salary of $111,000.

Prior to his appointment, Engler had been director of special education in the Northern Lehigh School District.
