A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 1:45 p.m., on Jan. 9 along SR61 in North Manheim Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Robert Darcangelo, 66, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla southbound when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car. The vehicle traveled onto the west berm where it struck a guide post for a PPL utility pole. The driver's side impacted with the guide wire of the pole, troopers added.

The impact caused the guide post to sheer off. After impact guide post fell over and impacted a 2008 Buick Lucerne, parked at 1464 SR61.

Darcangelo was found to be under the influence of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. He was then transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

The Toyota had to be towed from the scene while the Buick sustained minor damages.
