Do you want to be a radio star?

Published January 09. 2014 05:00PM

Do you have a hankering for Hank Williams, a yen for Yanni? Need a fix of Styx? Here's your chance to play the tunes you want to hear on the radio.

The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce is partnering with WMGH 105.5 Radio Station to invite wanna-be DJs from the community to buy an hour of on-air time Friday Jan. 17. The cost is $100, to be split between the radio station and the chamber.

Radio station personnel will provide technical support, Kerry Dowd of WMGH explained during a chamber meeting Tuesday. Anyone interested can call Dowd at WMGH, 570-645-2106.

Chamber Executive Director Linda Yulanavage said that paid memberships are on track for 2014, with 99 members registered. On average, the chamber membership is about 170, she said.

This year, the chamber may take a different tack with breakfast mixers, by having local churches play host. That way, the breakfast mixer can be a fundraiser for both the chamber and the church. Yulanavage asked that if any local churches are interested in hosting a breakfast mixer, a representative should contact the chamber.

Officers were elected for 2014: President Pat Freeh-Stefanek, Vice-president Kim Noel, Treasurer Jim Crossen and Secretary Major Sharon Whispell.
