Published January 07. 2014 05:00PM

Two persons were hurt in a head-on crash at 5:47 p.m. Dec. 21 at the intersection of Route 209 and Burger Hollow Road in Polk Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said Nancy S. Heil, 51, and Steven Heil, 15, both of Effort, were transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of what police called minor injuries.

Police said the accident happened as Nancy Heil was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on Route 209 and attempted to turn left onto Burger Hollow Road while failing to yield to oncoming traffic. Police said a southbound 2007 Pontiac G8, operated by Kathleen A. Shiffer, 66, Kunkletown, was unable to stop in time and the two vehicles collided head-on.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damages.

Police said Heil will be cited for vehicles turning left.
