Driver facing DUI charge after crash

Published January 06. 2014 05:00PM

Rebecca L. Calmona, 33, of Saylorsburg, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol as a result of a two-vehicle crash at 10:12 a.m. Dec. 13 at the intersection of Route 903 and Church Road in Penn Forest Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said she was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza northbound on Route 903 and was approaching Church Road, when it crashed into the rear of a 2000 Dodge Dakota operated by Michael Moyer, 51, of Lehighton. The latter was traveling directly in front of Calmona and had slowed down in an attempt to turn left onto Church Road.

Police said Calmona was arrested for suspicion of DUI/Drugs and was transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, by the Lehighton EMS, where she submitted to a blood draw to determine her blood-alcohol level. Police said she remained there to be evaluated for injuries she sustained in the crash.

In addition to the Lehighton EMS, police were assisted at the scene by the Penn Forest Township Fire Department and fire police.

Police said Calmona will also be cited for careless driving.
