Published August 20. 2014 11:52AM

A Lehighton man was killed early this morning when his car crashed head-on into a truck tractor on Route 940 in Foster Township.

Jamin Zimmerman, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Luzerne County coroner’s office.

The truck his vehicle struck was driven by David Kleppinger, 60, of Palmerton.

State Police at Hazleton barracks said the incident happened at 4:34 a.m.

Trooper Matthew A. Hunter, the investigating officer, said Zimmerman was traveling west on Route 940 and crossed the center line, striking Kleppinger’s truck.

Police said after impact, Zimmerman’s car, a 1999 Plymouth Breeze, went off the roadway and came to rest on the north shoulder of the road.
Kleppinger continued approximately 70 feet before coming to rest on the shoulder shoulder still facing east.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Kleppinger was not injured.

The Fearnots Fire Company and White Haven Ambulance assisted police at the scene.
