Company to repair 2 bridges in Schuylkill

Published August 14. 2014 04:00PM

A Northumberland County company will repair two bridges in Schuylkill County, including one in Rush Township, for $116,766.

Kevin E. Raker, Sunbury, was the lowest, most responsible bidder of six for the repair costs of both bridges combined.

The project will be paid for through liquid fuels money.

The bridges are in Barnesville and Pine Grove. County bridge 42, built in 1929, is on Orchard Road over Pine Creek in Rush Township.

The repair work includes removing a parapet joint where water had been eroding it.

Raker will also fix areas of the base where moving water has caused erosion. The company will place large rocks at the base to divert the flow. The two-lane road over the bridge, which carries about 967 vehicles a day, will be resurfaced.

The same work will be done on county bridge 125, on Kopp Road over Mahantongo Creek in Pine Grove.

The other bidders were DESCCO, Fleetwood, Berks County, $148,160; Heim Construction, Pottsville, $168,456; Bi-State Construction, Easton, $205,445; Barletta Materials and Construction, Hazleton, $223,667; and Bill Anskis Company, Elysburg, $228,783.
