An elderly Monroe County woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Sunday.

State police at Lehighton said Nancy A. Green, 73, of Gilbert, was driving a 1991 Buick Regal southbound on Route 209 in Towamensing Township at 2:47 p.m. and approaching Hemlock Street.

Troopers said Green fell asleep at the wheel with the car traveling across Route 209 and going onto the berm, where it hit a utility pole.

The car came to rest on the road facing south.

Green was flown to St. Luke's Hospital-Bethlehem with what troopers said were moderate injuries. The car was towed from the scene.

Assisting troopers were volunteers from the Franklin and Towamensing townships fire companies, and Lehighton and Palmerton EMS units.

Green will be cited for the crash, troopers said.
