The Summit Fall Fest to be held October 5

Fall Fest, a festival for the whole family, will be hosted by The Summit at Blue Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, in the parking lot at The Summit, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton.

A flea market will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. For information on the flea market, or to reserve a space, call (610) 377-7206.

A Little Miss Summit/Little Mr. Summit and Jr. Miss Summit/Jr. Mr. Summit Pageant will be held at 10 a.m.

There will also be a scavenger hunt. Registration for the hunt will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the hunt will begin at about 11. Participants will meet at the corner of Cypress and 11th streets in Lehighton. Teams of two individuals will be given a list of objects and tasks to perform throughout the Lehighton community. The course will be two to three miles in length. Team registration is required in advance.

Fall Fest also features live musical entertainment. The Perseverance Jazz Band, sponsored by the Mahoning Lions Club, will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Remember When from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be covered seating; bring a lawn chair.

Homemade food and baked goods will be available. Race cars and classic cars will be on display from 9 a.m. to noon.

Activities for the children include the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Safety House, pumpkin and face painting, potato sack races and ball toss. Carbon County Safe Kids will be providing Coconut Crusher demonstrations at various intervals throughout the day, and kids will have a chance to win a bicycle helmet. A raffle drawing for a bicycle, open to children up to 12 years of age, will be held at 4:45 p.m. You must be present to win. The LVHN MedEvac (medical helicopter) will be landing at 11 a.m., and everyone is invited to take a look inside from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (weather and schedule permitting).

Meet "Epi," LVHNs MedEvac mascot. Carbon County eateries will vie for the title of Best Wings in Carbon County, and the contest will be judged by prominent figures from the county.

The festival will be held rain or shine. Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of age. Admission is free and all proceeds will benefit The Summit.
