Pottsville woman charged with theft

Published September 26. 2013 05:00PM

A Pottsville woman has been charged by Tamaqua police following a retail theft incident at The Family Dollar Store on Sept. 18.

Officers were dispatched to the store, 137 N. Railroad St., at 8:36 p.m. after store personnel observed a woman stealing several health care related items from the shelves. The suspect left the store, then fled in a gold Chevrolet Malibu, exiting the parking lot and turning right on to Pine Street.

Patrolman Peter Wysochansky was on patrol in the area and immediately saw the suspect vehicle, which made a left turn on to Mauch Chunk Street, despite having a red light. The officer followed and was able to stop the Malibu on Patterson Street.

The driver was identified as Tiarra Kelly, while a rear seat passenger was identified as Lisa Maria Kelly, 44, of 1020 Pottsville St., Pottsville. Lisa Maria was identified as the person who had been in the store. In the rear with Lisa were two boxes of Poptarts, Meow Mix cat food and containers of face and body wash, each clearly labeled with Family Dollar Store stickers.

Lisa Kelly was charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy to commit retail theft. Records indicate this was her second offense.
