Lions to meet

Palmerton Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 at the Palmerton Library. In addition, club members will enjoy a hay ride at the home of Karen and Mark Green at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6. There is a nominal fee to attend and RSVP is to be given to Mark by Oct. 1.

The Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 meeting of the club will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Fireline Hotel. Members are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.

Community members are reminded to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First Northern Bank & Trust, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fire Line Road or by giving them to any Lions member. Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses.

Anyone needing financial assistance with eyeglasses can contact Jim Sheckler at (610) 826-4533. There are financial guidelines that must be followed and a written application must be completed and approved.
