A 15-year-old Tamaqua male has been charged with retail theft after he attempted to steal a package of beef jerky from the Family Dollar Store, 137 N. Railroad St., Tamaqua.

Police were called to the store at 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 14 by store personnel who had observed a young male stealing the jerky. He was described as a white male, around 16, wearing a red hoodie and blue jeans. He had left the store, traveling west toward N. Railroad Street.

Minutes later, an officer observed two teens, one matching the description provided, walking north on N. Railroad Street. He stopped the duo and asked what they had been doing at the store. One of the teens indicated he had taken the beef jerky but put it back when confronted by the clerk.

He was cited and released to the custody of his parents.
