Tamaqua donation drop-off/giveaway

Published September 23. 2013 05:01PM

Do you have a lot of household items you don't need or want to get rid of? If so, members of the Tamaqua Volunteers community initiative group are looking for donations of clothing, toys, tools, electronics, holiday decorations, pots/pans/dishes, cookware, furniture, appliances and anything else you don't want to throw away or wouldn't mind parting with.

They will accept practically anything clean and odor-free, no matter how small or large. Anybody can donate. The only items not accepted are old computer monitors and "smelly" items.

Donations can be dropped off this Saturday (Sept. 28) between 8 and 9 a.m. at the M and M Self Storage facility located next to Schickram's Car Wash (Rose St) in Tamaqua. Volunteers stress that they are not able to pick up or store donations.

Any Tamaqua resident wanting to receive donations is encouraged to be there by 9 a.m. for the donation giveaway scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. sharp.

All items will then be given away free to residents via a drawing.

The coordinator stated that anybody with a 18252 zip code, no matter their income, can take advantage of this giveaway. Anyone, no matter where you live, can drop-off items.

In case of heavy rain, the event will be moved to Sunday, Sept. 29 (same times).

For more information, visit the event on Facebook or call (570) 668-1234.

The free event is held every last Saturday of every warm month.

Organizers added that recent fire victims of the Brockton, Coaldale and Tamaqua fires will have priority over items.
