Family, friends and volunteers came together to hold a multi-event benefit benefit at the Rosemount Camping Resort in Lewistown Valley on Saturday in memory of Nicholas "Nick" Zeigler and to raise funds for Children and Youth Programs.

The benefit consisted of a children's fishing derby, adult fishing derby, chinese auction and food fair. Zeigler passed away following a car accident in April of last year.

"We wanted to raise money in our son's memory so we could support causes for children he would be honored to have sponsored," said mother Jessica Zeigler.

Last year, the the benefit raised enough funds to provide "Mr. Nick Cares" 800 Teddy bears to the Luzerne County Children and Youth program

"Our goal was for every child placed in the program - they would have something of their very own to keep them company," said Jessica Zeigler, who, along with her husband Marlin, had fostered many children. "Nick loved children. He was even employed at the Tamaqua Child Care Center during his high school years. Children at the center loved him."

In addition, benefit organizers said they were able to make a monetary donation to the Horizon Riding Program for children with special needs during the Rosemount Camping Resorts annual Chinese Auction the past two years. They added that they also made donations to Toys For Tots, Lizard Creek Hunting Club Youth Program and the Tamaqua Area Wrestling program.

"Nick was a huge part of everyone's life," added Jessica Zeigler.
