Teacher retires after 39 years in LASD
Lehighton Area School Board continues to deal with personnel changes for the 2013-2014 school year.
The school board has accepted the retirement of longtime math teacher Llewellyn Williams. His service to Lehighton Area School District spanned 39 years.
In addition, the school board accepted the resignation of Lisa Crum as cleaner at East Penn Elementary School.
On the flip side, the school board approved the recommendations to hire David Hauser as language arts teacher for grades seven through 12 and Gregory Kosciolek as special education teacher.
The school board also accepted the recommendations to hire Lehighton Area High School math teacher Michelle Rohrbach and LAHS language arts teacher Jennifer Shober Steigerwalt to teach SAT prep classes for math and English during the 2013-2014 school year. There will be no cost to the school district. Each course will be six hours at a cost of $25 to each participating student.
In addition, the school board approved the recommendation to hire Michele Dobrowski as a paraprofessional assigned to Lehighton Area Middle School.
The school board also approved extra-curricular advisor hires which include Kerry Andrew for band front; Michael Feifel for chess club; Samantha Kistler for high school yearbook; Cody Schuler for debate club; and Bernard Shea for high school photographer.
Additional athletic hires for the 2013-2014 school year include Drewann Troutman as assistant cheerleading coach; Alexa Jones as volunteer volleyball coach; Sean McCarroll as volunteer football coach; and Evan Outlaw as volunteer boys' soccer coach.
In other business, the school board approved special education community-based instructional trips that are related to students' individualized education plans for the 2013-2014 school year.
The next regular meeting of Lehighton Area School Board is scheduled for Monday, September 30 at 7 p.m. at LASD Administration Building, Conference Room A. The meetings are open to the public.
